For all culture lovers, for everyone who likes a little culture every now and then, and for the people that don’t know how they are going to fill up all those days of Christmas break just yet: The UITagenda is going to be your saviour! The UITagenda is Utrecht’s most complete cultural agenda, showing you everything that is going on in Utrecht like concerts, theatre, but also nightlife, restaurants and shopping. And the best part? Their website is also in English! So here is a selection of the coolest things you could be doing during the Christmas break:
Winter circus Utrecht
The winter circus Utrecht in the Jaarbeurs is one of the biggest winter circuses in the Netherlands. The show has been taking place since 2009, and has always had a very classic character. This year it will be different, since they have decided to make it more modern. The sawdust arena will make way to a real stage, and there will be a huge screen which will support all the different acts. This new 90-minute spectacle with special effects is something you really don’t want to miss during your Christmas break! The circus will be in town from December 24th till January 5th, and tickets range from 15 to 45 euros. So, release your inner child and go enjoy this once-a-year winter spectacle!
De Langste Nachten (The Longest Nights)
TivoliVredenburg hosts festival The Longest Nights from December 15th till December 30th. This festival turns Tivoli into one big open space, the heart of Utrecht. During the longest nights of the year the whole building will be open from sunset onwards, and will offer a great variety of activities. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a nice winter meal, free workshops, inspiring talks and much more! There are also lots of concerts and events, but you have to buy a ticket for those.
This year, your Christmas break might get a little more exciting since you will have the opportunity to buy a ticket to Junglebook, this year’s Christmas show in the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht. If you have never been in this beautiful building (which has just been completely renovated), this is your chance! In this version of Junglebook, Mowgli’s story will be told by ten dancers from Dance Collective ISH, the band ‘Jungle By Night’, beautiful animations by Catherine Henegan and rapper Gikkels. The show runs from the 22nd of December till the 30th, and tickets range between €10 and €24.50.
