From the 4th till the 6th of March the Café Theater Festival (CTF) will take over the city again! CTF is a festival where pub goers and theatre fans meet. While standing in one of the participating, cosy pubs of Utrecht, it’s now possible to enjoy all kinds of theatre performances. Besides that, CTF creates opportunities for young, talented people in the theatre world to show their talents. Different kinds of performances are present: theatre, cabaret, dance, opera, mime and puppetplay. The festival is free, but a small donation is welcome. At the end, a prize will be awarded by a professional jury, but also the audience can vote for their favourite performances for the ‘publieksprijs’.
In the end, you’re totally free to create your own theatre pub crawl with the mix of theatre and cafés you like. However, it’s also possible to choose a certain theatre route with the help of a plan. Based on your answers on a few questions, you’ll get an advice for a certain route. It’s possible to follow the route of ‘drinking to get Dutch courage’, ‘wear the trousers’ and some other Dutch proverbs which would be horrible to translate in English. You can find this plan in the online program folder: http://cafetheaterfestival.nl/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ctf_programmaboek_2016.pdf
It doesn’t matter if you’re already totally in love with theatre, or you just want to explore the world of theatre with a beer in your hand: CTF is accessible to everyone. Theatre is about meeting each other, about yourself and the other ones, about the real world and the world of imagination. Let the CTF performances surprise you and relax with your friends at the same time!
Are you already having plans this weekend? Don’t be sad, CTF organises every second Sunday of the month the ‘Anti Kater theater’ (Anti Hangover Theatre) in café Hofman. You can go here for a relaxing and surprising Sunday afternoon. And you never know: theatre might be the right hangover medicine you have been looking for all your life!
