What to do on Valentine’s Day?

8434179344_0c6dd665f3_oSome love it, some hate it, but it’s hard to ignore; on Sunday February 14th, it’s Valentine’s Day. In the year 496 Pope Gelasius I declared this date to be the day of Saint Valentine, but in the Netherlands it wasn’t celebrated until the nineties (if you want to read all about celebrating Valentine’s Day in Dutch style, check out the Abroad magazine).
Around Valentine’s Day there are a lot of things to do for couples, but even if you’re alone there are a lot of fun things to do. So grab your boy- or girlfriend, ask that cute person out you met on the introduction day, go with your best friend, or just take yourself, and enjoy these activities in Utrecht!

Chocolate workshop
It is tradition to give chocolates to your crush, but what’s the fun in that? Instead, make these delicious treats yourself! At Grachtenatelier you can learn how to make your own bonbons, while of course you can taste a bit of everything. Who doesn’t love chocolate?

Climb the Dom tower
Toerisme Utrecht organizes a romantic tour by nightfall, where you can climb the tower with a guide and enjoy the stunning views!

Go to the movies
Not very original, but still very fun! Go for a popular Hollywood movie to Wolff or Pathé, or watch an art-house movie at the Louis Hartlooper Complex. There is something to see for everyone!

Enjoy some theatre at Hofman Café
Every second Sunday of the month, Hofman organizes an Anti-Kater Theater (Anti-Hangover Theatre). Grab a bite to eat or drink some coffee, and enjoy some poetry or laugh with a comedian.
